Reading is crucial for children in education for several reasons:
Overall, reading plays a foundational role in children's education by enhancing language skills, promoting cognitive development, fostering empathy and social skills, and laying the groundwork for academic success and lifelong learning.
In our online reading club children gather to engage in reading activities aimed at improving vocabulary and comprehension skills. Please subscribe and follow our vocabulary blog to help your child at home developing their vocabulary.
The club utilises a Google Meets, where members can interact and access supporting materials.
Reading materials are selected, which could include short stories, novels, or non-fiction texts at the appropriate level for the children but also those that will challenge them. These selections are diverse in genre and subject matter to cater to different interests. The club meets weekly for discussions where children can share their thoughts, insights, and questions about the assigned reading. Children will be able to interact through the chat function, or by talking directly using a microphone depending on which they are more comfortable with.
In addition to discussing the reading, the club incorporates vocabulary-building exercises. This could involve highlighting and defining unfamiliar words, creating flashcards, or engaging in vocabulary games and quizzes. The club may also include comprehension challenges to assess understanding and promote deeper engagement with the text. This could include summarising passages, analysing characters and themes, or predicting outcomes. The children can access the internet to use google searches during the session for online dictionaries, reading guides, and other supplementary materials to aid comprehension and vocabulary expansion. To track individual progress, the club may encourage members to set personal reading goals, monitor vocabulary growth, and reflect on their comprehension skills over time.
Overall, the online reading club provides a structured and supportive environment for children to enhance their vocabulary and comprehension skills through collaborative reading, discussion, and interactive activities.

For a half term, it is £63.00 and payments are made half termly in advance.
The book we use will change every half term or term, depending on the length of the text and the term. Parents will need to ensure their child has access to a copy of the book we are using.
In this blog, we add Vocabulary which will be useful for children to learn the meaning of and become familiar with for their general education and 11-plus journey. Ask your child to remember the meaning of the word and use it in a sentence. Then make a game of the word each week where both parent and child try to use the word as often as they can - who will use it the most?
